Well, I guess I picked a heck of year to start a travel website… a time when literally NO ONE is traveling due to COVID-19. Even going up north to the cabin is frowned upon. Here in Minnesota, we are on day 17 of our stay at home order. In reality though, things have not been normal for even longer.
I think at this point, we all know the current situation and are hopefully rising to the challenge of social distancing in order to help save lives. We are lucky here in our state to not have been hit as hard as other areas, at least not yet. I personally do not know anyone who has been killed by the virus, but my heart is still heavy for the thousands of people around the world who have lost their lives because of it.
It’s been a long three weeks cooped up in our tiny one bedroom apartment. But there have been some really beautiful moments wrapped up in all of this strangeness. As someone who is always stressed and trying to cross off my to do list, it’s refreshing to be able to slow down. I’ve been able to be present and lay on the floor with my dog, nose to nose, looking into her big brown eyes or go on a long bike ride with my fiancé, not knowing our destination. I hope everyone who has the luxury of staying home is finding moments like these.
I’ve had so many feelings and thoughts throughout all of this this, but my mind seems to drift to traveling nearly everyday in some shape or form…
How lucky am I to have had the adventures I have had?
I think of all the people I have met during my trips abroad and wonder if they are okay during these times.
And of course, daydreaming about where I will go when this is all over. Now, more than ever I have an urge to explore new places and connect with people from all over this beautiful planet.
I’m not sure if anyone will even read this, but if you are I hope you are well and are thinking of brighter days and more adventures, too.
P.S. If you are reading this, feel free to shoot me an email with any updates/stories/rays of hope from your city, state, or country.
